February is the month of love and what better way to celebrate than with your friends?! Thanks to Leslie Knope, we had our very own Galentine's Day complete with music, food, card-making, and a much needed catch-up session.
Art projects are a great way to unwind outside of medicine. You learn how talented everyone is when you see their creativity. My friend, Pree, wanted to send a photo to her Valentine with her super cute new leather jacket. Talk about a perfect Polaroid!
Even though we all get busy with work at the hospital, once in a lunar eclipse (just kidding, definitely more often than that...but for real, did you see the moon tonight? So cool!), our schedules align and we make time to see each other. Healthcare providers, especially doctors, are not robots. We're human too and we like to have fun! That's one of the best parts about residency and it's also one of the most important. A social life keeps you engaged, active, and happy. People with friends are known to live longer and improve their mentation. They are also less likely to have depression and memory loss with age.
So this February, thank your friends for supporting you, keeping you sane, and making sure you don't forget things. And if you have a special someone, send them a photo of the smile they put on your face. :)
PS: These markers are the best, they got me through medical school and board exams.
